About the Credential

The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) is the State regulatory agency responsible for establishing and enforcing standards to ensure highly trained and ethical law enforcement, corrections, and telecommunications personnel are serving the people of Texas.

PSA 330 - Cultural Diversity in Public Safety Administration: 3 credits, upper division level
Equivalent to PSA 330: Cultural Diversity in Public Safety Administration at Charter Oak State College (COSC).

SPA 100 - Spanish for the Workplace: 3 credits, lower division level
Equivalent to SPA 100: Spanish for the Workplace at COSC.

Criminal Investigation: 3 credits, lower division level
Fundamentals of criminal investigation. Correct procedures and conduct at a crime scene, how to preserve evidence, and chain of custody. Emphasis on the responsibility of the first responder. Review documentation, preparation, and testimony in court.

Criminal Law: 3 credits, lower division level
Comprehensive study of sources, distinctions, and limitations relating to criminal law; the development of criminal law in the United States; the principles of criminal liability; various crimes and their elements; and the criteria considered in determining capacity and defenses.

Criminal Procedures and Processes: 3 credits, lower division level
Historical background, kinds of evidence, and the development of the rules of evidence. Considered are the hearsay rule and its major exceptions, burden of proof, judicial notice, and presumptions. Roles of the judge, jury, and prosecuting attorney, as well as the grand jury. Prosecution by indictment as well as other court procedures.

Physical Training and Wellness: 3 credits, lower division level
Prepares recruits for the rigorous duties of law enforcement. Provides the recruit with the skills and confidence to successfully perform his/her duties with a high degree of efficiency on regular basis.

Police Patrol Procedure: 3 credits, lower division level
Demonstrate effective patrol techniques and utilize computer information as well as telecommunication system
