American Montessori Society (AMS)
The American Montessori Society (AMS) issues Montessori credentials to successful graduates of AMS-affiliated Teacher Education Programs (TEPs) who hold a bachelor degree (or higher). An Associate Credential for Infant & Toddler and Early Childhood levels is awarded to those who have completed high school but do not hold a college degree.
This credential can also be known as:

Includes Montessori philosophy and the Montessori Method in theory and practice.
ECE 210 - Observation & Assessment in Early Childhood Programs: 3 credits, lower division level
ECE 321 - Mathematics for the Young Child: 3 credits, upper division level
Includes the intellectual development of mathematical thinking and the mathematical competencies that children need to acquire as well as how to integrate science throughout the curriculum using hands-on activities.
ECE 350 - History of Montessori Education: 3 credits, upper division level

Child Development Psychology: 3 credits, lower division level
Covers the major theoretical approaches to child development during the early childhood period and introduces principles, concepts, and facts related to child development.
Field Experience/Practicum in Early Childhood Montessori Education: 6 credits, upper division level (can be used to fulfill a requirement for ECE 399 – Child Studies Practicum)
Provides a supervised teaching/learning experience and a period of observation, internalization, and further study to bring together the theory and practice of Montessori education in a Montessori environment. The environment is prepared with materials and activities that respond to the developmental and varied needs and interests of the specific age group from ages 2.5-6. On-site consultations are provided, along with support, feedback, coaching, and mentoring.
Language/Reading - Early Language and Literacy: 3 credits, lower division level
The developmental stages of how children learn to read and whole language approaches to language development.
Montessori Methods, Curriculum for Young Children: Methods and Techniques: 3 credits, lower division level
Skills to teach children with Montessori methods in four key areas: 1) practical life; 2) sensorial; 3) art, music and creative movement; and 4) social studies.
