About the Credential

The Registration Examination for Electroencephalographic (EEG) Technologists is designed and written for those health care professionals that are trained in and currently practicing EEG technology.

Credit Recommendation Details / Competencies

Clinical Practicum I: 2 credits, lower division level

  • Demonstrate clinical competency in performing basic EEG skills, routine EEG testing procedures

  • Demonstrate ability to utilize and maintain laboratory equipment to perform EEGs under the direction of a registered technologist.

  • Demonstrate ability to perform a routine EEG on a cooperative patient in two hours

  • Equivalent to END 103 as taught at the Institute of Health Sciences and for which a CCAP credit recommendation was made.

Clinical Practicum II: 2 credits, lower division level

  • Demonstrate clinical competency in complex EEG recordings

  • Demonstrate understanding of effects of medications in END studies as well as sedation practices and common medications with a focus on antiepileptic drugs and their effect on the EEG

  • Demonstrate understanding of cerebral brain death studies

  • Demonstrate knowledge of pediatric recording requirements

  • Equivalent to END 203 as taught at the Institute of Health Sciences and for which a CCAP credit recommendation was made.

Electroneurodiagnostic Technology I: 3 credits, lower division level

  • Demonstrate performance and understanding of patient history taking

  • Demonstrate knowledge of published guidelines for performing adult EEG, basic concepts of montage development, activation procedures

  • Demonstrate knowledge of normal awake and sleep patterns

  • Equivalent to END 102 as taught at the Institute of Health Sciences and for which a CCAP credit recommendation was made.

Electroneurodiagnostic Technology II: 3 credits, lower division level

  • Demonstrate understanding of EEG, abnormal patterns, and patterns of unknown significance including polarity, localization and filters

  • Demonstrate knowledge of various epileptiform EEG patterns such as spikes, sharp waves as well as non-epileptiform patterns in adults

  • Demonstrate knowledge of pediatric EEG patterns from prematurity to adolescence.

  • Demonstrate methods used to localize events using polarity rules

  • Apply ACNS guidelines to gain knowledge of complex EEGs and recording methods

  • Equivalent to END 202 as taught at the Institute of Health Sciences and for which a CCAP credit recommendation was made

Fundamentals of Healthcare for the END Technologist: 1 credit, lower division level

  • Demonstrate understanding of the scope of practice of the END technologist

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the professional code of ethics of the practicing END technologist as well as a historical perspective of the profession.

  • Equivalent to END 101 as taught at the Institute of Health Sciences and for which a CCAP credit recommendation was made.

Neuroanatomy and Physiology for the END Technologist: 3 credits, lower division level

  • Demonstrate knowledge of neuroanatomy and physiology including directional terms with other organ systems

  • Demonstrate knowledge of structure and function of general sensory receptors

  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic anatomical terminology used to describe body direction, surfaces, body planes, directional terms used to perform END testing

  • Demonstrate knowledge of various types if tissues, body membranes

  • Equivalent to END 201 as taught at the Institute of Health Sciences and for which a CCAP credit recommendation was made.

Neurological Disorders I: 3 credits, lower division level

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the CNS and common abnormalities such as neoplasm, infection and trauma

  • Demonstrate understanding of the clinical signs and symptoms of coma, impaired consciousness

  • Demonstrate knowledge of abnormal PNS testing- EMG, EP testing

  • Demonstrate understanding of abnormalities in common diseases such as Multiple sclerosis, demyelinating diseases and spinal cord disease

  • Equivalent to END 301 - Neurological Disorders I as taught at the Institute of Health Sciences and for which a CCAP credit recommendation was made.

Neurological Disorders II: 3 credits, lower division level

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the CNS and common abnormalities such as neoplasm, cerebrovascular disease, developmental disorders, metabolic/toxic disorders

  • Demonstrate knowledge of patient symptoms such as headaches, dizziness and vertigo

  • Demonstrate understanding of the presentation of various levels of consciousness, including coma

  • Demonstrate understanding of the indications for surgical monitoring in the IOM neurosurgical procedures and the expected changes that may occur during neurosurgery.

  • Equivalent to END 401 - Neurological Disorders II as taught at the Institute of Health Sciences and for which a CCAP credit recommendation was made.
