About the Training Sponsor

The Siena / Connecticut Institute for Music and the Arts, established in 1980, provides intensive study for qualified participants in music, arts, and language. The Sessione Senese per la Musica e L'Arte (SSMA) is sponsored by the Institute and held in Siena each July. College students from the United States spend five weeks advancing their performance skills under the direction of experts while also increasing their knowledge of Italian language and culture.

Competencies 

Performance Practice: 3 credits, upper division level, in Applied Music
To assist students to perform an artistically convincing performance of the music of the masters and to familiarize them with audition levels of performance. The intensive, residential course provides guided training in the reading, phrasing, interpretation and preparation for performance, both in solo and ensemble situations. Classroom instruction, structured and free rehearsal, and concert performances are used to enhance student learning. In addition to the music instruction, the program also offers basic language instruction in Italian and lectures and field trips to better understand the cultural legacy of Italy.
