Competencies 

Advanced Course in Commercial Art, Illustration and Design: 2 credits, lower division level
This course is designed to teach students advanced skills and techniques for a career in commercial art, illustration and design. Students will learn how to create illustrations for books, magazines, fashion drawings, posters, greeting cards, graphic designs and other media. The advanced course has three tracks of seven lessons each; the tracks are figure illustration, fashion illustration, or design and art direction. The student selects two tracks for a total of fourteen correspondence lessons. Student work is graded and critiqued by recognized artists.

Advanced Course in Drawing and Painting: 2 credits, lower division level
This course is designed to teach students more advanced skills and techniques in drawing and painting. The student will study color, texture, various media and genre to prepare to complete the course assignments. The advanced course has three tracks: general, landscapes, or portraiture. Each track has fourteen correspondence lessons and covers color harmony, textures and other subjects specific to the track selected by the student. The general track has an orientation to general figure drawing and painting. Student work is graded and critiqued by recognized artists.

Basic Course in Commercial Art, Illustration and Design: 2 credits, lower division level
This course is designed to teach students the fundamental skills and techniques for a career in commercial art, illustration and design. The student will learn how to create illustrations for books, magazines, fashion drawings, posters, greeting cards, graphic designs and other media. The course covers drawing and painting techniques, composition, texture, perspective, color, figure drawing, and design in ten correspondence lessons. Student work is graded and critiqued by recognized artists.

Basic Course in Drawing and Painting: 2 credits, lower division level
This course is designed to teach students the fundamental skills and techniques in drawing and painting. Students will study color, texture, various media and genre to be prepared to complete the course assignments. The course covers color, watercolor and oil painting techniques, picture composition, landscapes, still life, and perspective in ten correspondence lessons. Student work is graded and critiqued by recognized artists.
