Intro to Computer Based Illustration with Adobe Illustrator, May 2006 through May 2016: 3 credits, lower division level
The goal of this course is to introduce the student to the world of graphics and specifically to illustration through the use of Adobe Illustrator. The student will learn to identify when to use an illustration program and the difference between a vector and raster program. The student will learn to use Adobe Illustrator to create illustrations including logos, advertisements, wrappers and packaging, and realistic illustrations. Topics include drawing, transforming, positioning and brush tools; color; page setup; 3-D effects; and preparing work for print.
Intro to Digital Art and Design with Photoshop, June 2010 through May 2016: 3 credits, lower division level
The goal of this course is to introduce the student to the world of graphics and specifically to photo editing through the use of Adobe Photoshop. The student will learn to identify when to use Photoshop and the difference between a vector and raster program. The student will learn to use the various painting tools in Photoshop, to correct and adjust flaws and blemishes, to make tonal adjustments, and to add and/or take away parts of photos. Students will also learn how to make photo montages. Topics include the use of pen, painting and selection tools; working with vector objects and shapes, layers, opacities, masks and adjustment layers; color modes and color adjustments.
Intro to Page Layout with Adobe InDesign, May 2006 through May 2016: 3 credits, lower division level
The goal of this course is to introduce the student to the basics of typography and letter form to create basic one page and multiple page layouts using Adobe InDesign. Topics include when to use a page layout program; placing graphics; setting up columns and margins; and the use of color, typography, grids, master pages, sections, styles and links.
